A Day In The Life of a Gypsy Shrine Artist
- Elena Dymott -
If you were a cocktail, what would you be?
Definitely feeling these cocktails that have the candyfloss and glitter in them at the moment though, whoever had the idea to put desert with a drink is a genius! Extra drink for an extra life!
What’s been your favourite Gypsy Shrine collection?
I think I’ll forever be crushing over last year’s Misfits collection as it was the first collection I ever worked with and the pieces are timeless even thought they’re meant for Halloween! I saw one girl wearing our Fortune-teller gems at Creamfields this year and I still think that gem looked as cool as ever….the ice queen glitter works with so much too! But this years…completely topped it!
What’s been your standout moment working with The Gypsy Shrine so far?
Has to be my time doing glitter for Motel Rocks in Bali. After the whole drama of getting lost and bumping into Georgia Harrison from Love Island who helped us get to the villa the whole afternoon was incredible- who wouldn’t want to glitter such beauties in the sun with a pool?! And there were so many new clothes to sit and look at, any girls fantasy dress up.
Who is your make up inspiration on Instagram?
HUGE shout out to my fellow Rhia Barton @rhiabartonmua and Jess Carswell @jessicac.artistry because everything they do is incredible and I’ve had the privilege to work with them and even steal a few make up hacks off them! I never really was into the whole make up thing until I started with Gypsy Shrine so I’m still very much learning about it all but I also love watching Nikkietutorials and mmmmitchell for tips on eyemake up and for being glowy af!.
If you could glitter up any celeb, who would it be?
Someone let me give Tom Hardy a glitter beard when he’s next grown one PLEASE.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up. – always found this reassuring on those days where nothing is going right.
You're stranded on a desert island and can only take 3 things, what would they be?
SPF obviously because I’m not coming home all wrinkly and burnt, maybe an inflatable pineapple to chill out on, and an endless supply of chocolate buttons because if you know me…you know they’re life.
If you weren’t a Gypsy Shrine artist, what else would you be?
I’m just about to start my masters in Cybercrime Investigation so I’d definitely still be working along those lines if I didn’t work for Gypsy Shrine- although I reckon I would have gone straight into it instead of taking a year out to chill out and enjoy myself and do things I love. Because cyber networks are always getting more complex and will not be dying out on us, I’ve always found something quite intriguing about cyber systems, how it can cause people problems, how it can network people- for good and bad reasons, store information you didn’t realise was out there about yourself… there’s so much information out there on one system I found it crazy!
Describe what a typical day of glittering is as a Gypsy Shrine artist..
Hectic but amazing!! With a lot of hovering after you’ve finished work- I will never not find glitter on my clothes or in my carpet….but I’m totally fine with that I love it.
Festivals or Holidays?
Can I combine both?! Festival clothes with the tan of a holiday sign me up!! I couldn’t imagine life without either they’re what I look forward to, they get me through winter.
What are your top 3 beauty tips?
No matter how tired or drunk, wash your face to save your skin and your pillow case, Highlight your cupids bow for the ultimate fuller lip, and never forget lip exfoliation- game changer.
